 What is Markhor animal

Markhor is a large wild goat species that is found in the mountainous regions of Central Asia, including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The word "Markhor" is derived from the Persian words "mar" meaning snake and "khor" meaning eater, which refers to its ability to kill and eat snakes.

Markhors are known for their long, spiraling horns, which can grow up to three feet in length in males and are used for territorial displays and battles with other males during the mating season. They have a distinctive reddish-brown coat with white underparts, and males typically have a long, shaggy beard on their chin.

Markhors are well adapted to the harsh mountainous terrain and can climb steep cliffs and rocky outcrops with ease. They are primarily herbivorous and feed on grasses, leaves, and shrubs. Markhors are classified as a near-threatened species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) due to habitat loss, hunting, and competition with domestic livestock.
